Foster Grant, being the first brand of sunglasses in America, is still well known for their sunglasses today. Foster Grant, became increasingly popular in the 1960’s with its first launch of the famous ad campaign, “Who’s that behind those Foster Grants?” which features many celebrities of the time. The successful campaign was launched again in the late 1990’s and a slightly varied version in 2007.

In the 1950’s, Ray-Ban introduced the Wayfarers. This design became more popular after being worn by Audrey Hepburn in the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The Wayfarers, have been said to be the best selling design in sunglasses and the most enduring fashion icon.

Teashades, with their wire rims are best known as John Lennon glasses. They were popular in the 1960’s and were associated with the “hippie” culture and the anti-establishment movement. They are round in shape and were available in several lens colors or tints. These glasses as well, are still on the market today.

Granny glasses were also a brainchild of the 1960’s. These wire rims were rectangle in shape and like the teashades, were available in several lens colors or tints. They were not actually sunglasses, even though they were colored or tinted, but were more of a fashion statement of the time.
